Eccleshall Cricket Club Investing in Eccleshall
Five years of hard work has paid off with the impending opening of Eccleshall Cricket Club’s new Pavilion ready for the 2013 season. The Club has one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in Staffordshire and now has a Club House and changing facilities to match.
Steve Lightfoot, Club Development Officer, said :-
“This development caps a five year programme of investment in Eccleshall Cricket Club. The Club first changed all of its ground equipment and then, with the help of the England & Wales Cricket Board, erected a two lane practice facility in 2010. Further investment saw new covers and in 2012 an electronic scoreboard. The pavilion was a huge undertaking for our small, but ambitious club and has cost in excess of £230,000 to build and replaces some old and tired changing facilities which did not meet modern day requirements.
This takes the total investment over the past five years to well in excess of£300,000 supporting local cricket. At the same stage we have a thriving senior team, with a third team being started for the first time this season, playing in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League and the Stone and District League and in excess of 120 Juniors across seven teams. We also have a strong and developing girls section. And we are also really proud of our strong representation at County level.
With these new facilities and the benefit of this investment we can look forward to increased growth at Senior and Junior level as well as continued success both on and off the pitch.”
None of this investment would have been possible without the help of many local and national organisations. Chairman, Chris Marshall, commented :-
“I would like to thank Sport England, Sita Trust Ltd, Staffordshire Environmental Fund, Communities Means Business (LEADER), England &Wales Cricket Board, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford Borough Council and Eccleshall Parish Council for their support of Eccleshall Cricket Club and Eccleshall Youth Club. The new Club House will also be regularly used by the recently started Eccleshall Youth Club better known as YoYo. The Club has been keen to work with YoYo to help them meet their aspirations for somewhere for young people to meet locally.”
The Club House will also be available for the whole community to use for parties, activities and for business meetings and conferences. The Club will be publishing details about hire in the near future. Just on the edge of the town centre, the club is in walking distance for many and is investing in its car park for those arriving by car.
If you would like to see the New Pavilion, the Club is holding an Open Day on Saturday 6th April from 10am-4pm. Everybody is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
The building of the new Club House and refurbishment of the existing pavilion was done by Scott Leedham and his excellent team from Leedham Construction Ltd.
